This holiday weekend we welcomed the Muppets back to the silver screen in, uh, The Muppets. It’s been 32 years since their first feature film, The Muppet Movie and 12 years since Muppets from Space. Add in the sensation they stirred up with any of their promotional appearances or parody trailers and it’s clear we’ve been missing the Muppets. And The Muppets, the movie, nails that perfect blend of nostalgia with fantastic fresh material.
Much of The Muppets’ success, of course, goes to the Muppets. These characters are so much larger than the people who bring them to life, and it’s because of this the Muppets will most likely still be making movies long after we’re dead. And this isn’t meant to discredit those who do bring them to life! What they do is incredible. I’ve always been amazed at the amount of emotion and expression a Muppet can show, and in The Muppets, the Muppets deliver some of their best, most genuine performances.
There’s a chance of spoilers ahead, but not an abundance. Too much of the fun is in the surprise, in particular the awesome cameos. (more…)
Every week the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut.
On Mondays we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at email@example.com.

So, this is a real statue in Rome. Maybe this is commemorating when Clark revealed his secret identity to Batman. And Batman’s all like, “I already knew, bro, I’m Batman.” Either way, this is awesome, I wonder what other odd super hero statues are hidden around Europe. Is there a Batman and Robin, Jason Todd, pieta? (GeekTyrant)
Fans have been charmed by the Toy Story franchise since the first movie premiered in 1995. 15 years later and the geniuses at Pixar are still going strong, producing quality movies that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Don’t believe me? You can say you were not amused by “Finding Nemo“, “Up” or “The Incredibles” but if you do, we can tell you’re lying. They’re just flat out good and funny.
“Toy Story 3” follows right along those lines. It is both very good and very funny, with a lot of laugh out loud moments and a few of our cold heartstrings being tugged.
So this kid made a mashup of “Toy Story” and “Inglourious Basterds” for a class project. I have no idea why a young person was permitted to see “Inglourious Basterds,” but whatever. The end result is interesting. Thanks to Nerdist for posting.
I love Pixar. I love Disney. I love Toy Story. And now, not only has Toy Story and TS2 come out as a double feature, the TS3 trailer has been released! These past few couple of weeks have been wonderful. So, a little tidbit of info about TS3: It is being produced by Pixar and released by Disney. Lee Unkrich is the director and was to co-director of TS2. The original actor John Morris is still voicing Andy. Mattel and Lego are designing toys to promote the film and Disney Interactive Studios will be creating a video game based on the film. The movie will be coming out on June 10, 2010.
The plot is simple. Andy, who is now 18 years old, is going away to college. All of his toys are going to be put away in storage but at the last minute and decides to keep Woody. Before the rest of his toys can be put into the attic, they are accidentally thrown into the trash. The garbage men pick up the toys and send them off to a local day-care center. Woody is now on a mission to help save his friends and find them new homes.
And all the old characters are back, of course! Oh my goodness just got my first look at the new trailer! Holy Hell it looks amazing! Enjoy. After the jump, you can check out the trailer, new character poster, and TS3 teaser poster.
