One thing you’ve got to know about talking to Michael Rooker one-on-one is he’s scary. The aviator sunglasses he wore weren’t helping either. Seriously though, underneath that gruff exterior is funny and charming man who has now found himself at the center of the nerd universe thanks to roles in AMC’s The Walking Dead and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. In our brief chat at the National Fan Expo Friday, Rooker discussed which franchise is winning the autograph wars, how he’s a nerd with muscles and how a little Yondu does a long way. (more…)

Those of you lamenting Merle no longer being among the living on The Walking Dead, I’ve got some good news, he’s branching out, going off world. Deadline is reporting Michael Rooker has been cast in Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy, reuniting him with Slither director, James Gunn. His role will be the former Guardian, Yondu, a game hunter from Centauri IV. Yondu hasn’t been included in the proposed Guardian line-up so maybe his role will be as a mentor or something. My biggest question is, will Rooker go blue in order to look like the comic book interpretation of Yondu,

I mean, that’s one hell of look, but I think Rooker could rock it. What do you think? Okay, chances are they’ll tone down this design for the movie, as we’ve seen done with just about every comic book flick around, but I do wonder what Yondu will look like. And will it be CGI? Prosthetics? Mo-cap?

Guardians of the Galaxy is shooting for a August 1st, 2014 release date. Rooker joins Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. We’re still waiting news on who’ll be cast as Groot and Rocket Raccoon.
