With Warner Bros. set on quickly expanding their DC Cinematic Universe, it comes as no surprise that more news is starting to surface regarding the future of Guillermo del Toro‘s movie adaptation of Justice League Dark. Having managed to juggle his fantastically busy schedule; writing and handing in a finished screenplay to the suits at Warner just before Christmas, this is by no means a transient money-grabber for the ever-proverbial workaholic. Guillermo has been working on the project alongside the studio for many years now, and it seems that both parties want to knock things into gear–or at least kick-start the creative engine. With no solidified release date in sight yet, we have news on potential characters who could be set to feature in the dark superhero franchise. (more…)
As excited as everyone is for the new NBC series, Constantine, the one question that has been on many minds is how this new show will affect Guillermo del Toro’s long awaited Justice League Dark movie. This is a valid concern, considering John Constantine is a key, founding member of the team. Well, the ever-busy filmmaker has finally addressed this question. (more…)
Earlier today I had the pleasure of writing an update piece about Guillermo del Toro and his continuing attempts to get a Hulk television series and the At the Mountains of Madness project going. Now, it looks like the guy just isn’t busy enough, cause he’s taking on something more. Just a rumor under the title of Heaven Sent thus far, it has been confirmed that the new working title of del Toro’s going-to-happen DC project is Dark Universe.
This film, based on the darkly awesome DC Vertigo line (the comics that I personally grew up on), will be bringing together some of the best of DC’s alternative heroes. So far, del Toro has mentioned the presence of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, The Spectre, Deadman, Zatanna and The Demon. He refuses to divulge any more, unfortunately, lest the film get spoiled.
The project is still in its infancy, however, and del Toro has mentioned that they’ve only just hired on a writer. Who is that man who can make or break this fkn kick-ass project? Del Toro won’t say! Jerk!
So other than the fact that it is moving forward, has a writer and will most likely feature the characters previously mentioned, we know nothing. Rest assured that we will be handing out details as soon as they emerge.
A hearty nerd-boner thanks to /film for the heads-up on this one.
Each and every week we scour the Internet for nothing but the best in nerdy art. We leave no digital stone unturned, we poke and prod every nook and cranny of the Interwebz. Why? Because we love you, and we love to bring you weekly feed of nerd art. On with the dump!
J-Estacado must really love the work of famed pin-up artist Gil Elvgren, so much so that he made his own tribute piece to Gil with DC Comics Zatanna in place of Gil’s girls. He really nails it too, right down to the black negligee she has on in the tribute piece. Now that’s some real magic. [Nudity and Nerdery]

While there’s been a lot of talk about Warner Bros. and their dreams of getting a Justice League movie started, we learned last week they were talking with Guillermo del Toro about developing another super hero team movie. Del Toro has his eye on Heaven Sent, a flick that would team up many of DC’s darker and more mystical characters like Deadman, The Spectre, Swamp Thing, Constantine Hellblazer, Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, Sargon, and Etrigan the Demon. It sure sounds a little out of the box but like I said before, with del Toro in charge this could be a smash.
Recently speaking with MTV del Toro confirmed his enthusiasm for the project, saying,
When somebody asked me about Justice League…I’m not involved in Justice League. I am discussing…I’ve been discussing with the fans and I’ve been very, very open about how much Swamp Thing was key when I was a kid. Comics in Mexico came on the first two days of the week. Around Tuesday and Wednesday I would go to the newsstand on my bicycle and I would get Swamp Thing every time it was available and I loved Jack Kirby’s Demon. I love Constantine and all that. You know, I’ve been pursuing doing something with them for many, many years. Hopefully it’ll come to pass. But we are still just discussing.
Okay, WB, let the man do what he wants! Who better to tackle bringing Swamp Thing back to the big screen, especially teamed with Deadman, Spectre, Etrigan the freakin’ Demon, than del Toro? He has such a knack for monsters who really aren’t so monstrous at heart, the heroes who look more frightening than any villain. That’s who these characters are. I don’t know, to me, this sounds like a no brainer, what do you think of del Toro possibly working on Heaven Sent for WB?

Forget the Justice League, the movie Warner Bros. is oh-so-desperate to make in order to challenge The Avengers, they may soon let Guillermo Del Toro make his own super hero movie using a different team of DC characters.
This all stems from WB being really pleased with Pacific Rim. It’s testing well and it looks like del Toro and WB might have a bonafide hit on their hands. Enough so that they’d be willing to let del Toro work on whatever the hell wants as his next project, and what he wants is to make is a supernatural team-up movie called Heaven Sent. The report is coming from the Latino Review who say the team would consist of Deadman, The Spectre, Swamp Thing, Constantine Hellblazer, Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, Sargon and Etrigan the Demon.
Any other director and I think this worst idea ever, destined to fail, but del Toro? This sounds right up the Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth director’s alley. Now, were this to really happen it’d be years and years away, but what do you think? Does this sound like a flick you’d want to see?

ABOVE: CAT FIGHT! Or… I suppose Bat fight. It a battle of the Gotham’s extended Batman family as Batgirl takes on Batwoman in what looks to be the beginning of an all out slug-fest. While artists Ardian Syaf and Vicente Cifuentes have created an awesome melee between these heroines, it could use a little more tickling for my tastes. [Nickel Double]

The Interwebz, where nerd art runs wild. In the wrong places you’ll find pics of where Batman keeps the Robin “tryouts” or bootlegs of those exercise vidoes Wonder Woman made in the late eighties. In the right places you can find mind blowing nerd based art.
Welcome to the right place.
We collect it, you enjoy it, and we are all better for it.
ABOVE: Ever wonder what it would have been had Clint Eastwood actually been cast as Batman? Wonder no more! Aged, pissed off, a carrying a case of permanent smoker’s lung. The Interwebz is a great place for nerdy art and the like. A lot of the time it’s crazy things like Super Mario finding a mushroom in Luigi’s warp pipe (anus), Superman blowing off Lois Lane’s face with a bukakke blast abd other weird shit. But there are a lot of awesome things that we see on a daily basis, and we’re lazy nerd bastards so we just round them all up once a week for your nerdgasm art lovin’.
ABOVE: It is my dream to have an episode of DW where the Doctor screams “it’s the Libyans!” and watch him go back in time with Rose Tyler to sonic screwdrive McFly’s mom. In the mean time, I’ll have to settle for this DW/Back to the Future mash-up by RatGirlStudios [Deviantart]
