What do you do when you are great at blowing shit up then suck at governing California? Well you go back to doing what you do best in that state- saving humanity!! (Only in film…reality wasn’t so great). Thats right, Arnold Schwarzenegger is all set to blow some more shit up and erase the memory of Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines and Terminator 4: Salvation from our minds.
The last 20 years haven’t been the best for our favorite cyborg. We flinched at Salvation, knowing that T3 was doomed from the very day franchise creator James Cameron decided to pass on it.
There was no reason for this movie to be made. T4, Rise of The Machines, was mostly battles. Loud Battles. Constant battles. And some blaring machines thrown in there. Schwarzenegger wasn’t all there, neither was the film. So we move on to the fifth installment of the six-part series and say “hooray!” for the promising looking Terminator 5 (tentative title in the works is Terminator: 2012).
Here’s an excerpt from Deadline for the tentative story line:
“Wisher’s 2-picture construct takes place in a post-apocalyptic battleground, and factors in an element of time travel that allows for Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese to interact beyond their single fateful meeting when he traveled back in time to protect her in the original film. Wisher has created a role for Arnold Schwarzenegger that is as surprising as his shift from villain in the first film, to John Connor’s bodyguard in the second. Schwarzenegger wouldn’t be needed until the final film. … There are several new villains, and plenty of firepower. For instance, a swarm of “Night Crawlers,” 4 1/2-foot tall border sentries that are set like mines to spring up out of the ground and ambush rebel fighters with 10 MM pistols built into their wrists, and fingers and feet that are razor sharp. Also fresh off the Skynet assembly line are new shape-shifting cyborgs that can morph together in Transformers-like mode, and are more lethal than anything we’ve seen in previous Terminator installments.”
Pretty awesome stuff. The rumor (always with the rumors…for once i’d like to hear the quit the vague and say : “Hey Guys- here’s the true, solid, and undoubtedly happening truth!”. Ahh Dreams.) is that Linda Hamilton and Michael Bien will reprise their roles of Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese, respectively. Other rumors state that the entire original cast will return. Holy shit, that a lot of rounding up actors from 1984. No sources have really mentioned Edward Furlong as John Connor. Thoughts? ::Cricket::
With time travel, new and deadly opposing forces, and director James Lin having a love for this franchise, I’m expecting fireworks. And post-apocalyptic special effects. I don’t ask much.
