Fandango, the nation’s leading moviegoer destination, announced today that advance ticketing records were set by Lionsgate’s upcoming thriller, The Hunger Games, which has already sold out hundreds of showtimes in advance of the film’s March 23 release date. Even though the film doesn’t open for another month, the first-day ticket sales on Wednesday, February 22 broke the previous first day advance ticket-seller record held by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse on Friday, May 14, 2010.

“‘The Hunger Games’ is off to a fantastic start,” says Rick Butler, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fandango. “Yesterday we saw the biggest first day advance ticketing sales in our company’s nearly 12-year history – which is especially impressive for a March release and a non-sequel.”

Blah, blah – ‘Twilight’ sucks – blah, blah, hooray for ‘The Hunger Games’- blah, blah. Before you strut down the street naked, farting rainbows along the way, it’s unlikely The Hunger Games will do Twilight numbers. Fandango advance sales don’t mean shit.

Prime example: The Jonas Brothers concert film saw very strong ticket sales in the weeks before its release…and then went on to open to just $12 million.*Deflated fart noise*

Its encouraging to see the numbers for pre-sales are good, but Twilight is Twilight. The fan base is stupid huge. There’s just no fucking way Hunger Games will compete.

Pre-sale and final box office numbers for The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises, however, will surely obliterate the Twi-twat franchise out of the universe. Amen to that, right?
