You would be forgiven for thinking that Beetlejuice 2 is a done deal and must be somewhere near a finished product. Since 2012 there has been talk all over the internet about a return for Beetlejuice. Simply searching for “Beetlejuice 2″ brings up a litany of results. They include convincing posters for the movie, quotes from Winona Ryder and Tim Burton stating that the film is going ahead and even an IMDB page with the two main cast members confirmed.

There is now official news on the movie! Twenty-eight years after the release of the first Beetlejuice film, Tim Burton has updated fans on what is actually happening with Beetlejuice 2. Unfortunately it is not good news for fans of the ghost with the most…

Tim Burton recently spoke with Collider and professed his interest in directing the sequel but admits “nothing is concrete yet.” One positive that can be drawn from Burton’s interview is that, in a world where Hollywood has the capability to ruin a beloved film or franchise to make a quick buck, Burton refuses to dive blindly into the project.

“This is the thing, it’s something that I’m interested in, but there are so many stories [online], dumping Michael Keaton for Johnny Depp and this or that, and I’ve talked to these people and they didn’t wanna hear this, so they just made up a story. But the fact of it is I have talked to Michael and I have talked to Winona [Ryder], I’ve talked to a few people. It’s something that I really would like to do in the right circumstances, but it’s one of those films where it has to be right. It’s not a kind of a movie that cries out [for a sequel], it’s not the Beetlejuice trilogy. So it’s something that if the elements are right—because I do love the character and Michael’s amazing as that character, so yeah we’ll see. But there’s nothing concrete yet.”

It is literally impossible to imagine a Beetlejuice movie that isn’t directed by Tim Burton. In the same breath it is hard to imagine anyone but Michael Keaton stepping into the black and white striped suit with Winona Ryder by his side. Seth Grahame-Smith (who recently dropped out of directing The Flash) is said to be writing the script with David Katzenberg and will hopefully convince Burton to make the film with an engaging Beetlejuice story line.

Only time will tell if Beetlejuice 2 will go into production but you can get your Tim Burton fill with Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children, that hits cinemas this September.

If only getting a new Beetlejuice film was as easy as saying his name three times…
