The rotating door to the production of a future Masters of the Universe movie turns again, and as we say goodbye to G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu, we say hello to Jeff Wadlow, who is now rumored to be the man for the job for the big screen trip back to Eternia. Is Wadlow the filmmaker to break this deadlock and bring us a live-action He-Man again? No one – except maybe the Shadow – knows.

Credit to Schmoes Know who know a scooper that has said that Wadlow has “closed” the deal to jump aboard the Warner Bros. film. Further, an “official” announcement will be made shortly, and production on the film will begin again in earnest for an unspecified release date. A new MOTU movie has been stop and go for some time, with John Woo being attached as far back as the late 90s, Wadlow is just the latest name associated with the franchise. If you don’t recognize the name, Wadlow’s been the writer/director associated with the development of the X-Force movie at Fox. You may also know him from one or both of his biggest hits:  Kick-Ass 2, a superhero sequel that was dissed by critics and dismissed by audiences, and Never Back Down, the teen MMA flick that had a kind of cheesy beefcake charm.

Speaking of cheesy you may recall that MOTU has made it to movie screens once before in a 1987 flick starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella as He-Man and the villainous Skeletor respectively. That film is definitely a product of the 80s and cash-strapped producers complete with big ambitions and budget shortfalls. It also showed the very tight rope anyone interested in making a He-Man movie has to walk, because the fantasy meets sci-fi world of MOTU looked very bizarre in live-action with its combination of loincloths and laser guns. But I digress….

We’ll have more news as it develops, in the meantime sound off below with your thoughts on all things He-Man.
