While the news on the What We Do In Shadows movie sequel/spinoff isn’t great, there’s new information that will put a toothy smile on fans of Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement‘s vampire mockumentary, there’s going to be a television spinoff called Paranormal Event Response Unit. That’s right, Officer O’Leary (Karen O’Leary) and Officer Minogue (Mike Minogue), the police officers from What We Do In The Shadows will be tackling paranormal crime in the capital city of Wellington in New Zealand.

NZ On Air has ordered six thirty minute episodes for $1 million dollars to air on TVNZ 2.

Jane Wrightson, the Chief Executive for NZ On Air said:

Comedy is serious business and notoriously hard to get right. We are delighted that Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are bringing their talents to smaller screens.

While that is great news for WWSITS fans in New Zealand, currently there is no plan in place for the episodes to air outside the country. In this day of Internet though, some sort of streaming deal is sure to happen sooner or later, wither through a streaming service or some pirate site.

Here’s a taste of what we might see.

Waititi is currently working on Thor: Ragnarok, the success of that blockbuster might just open some doors for Waititi in terms of funding his own creative ventures. Let’s all hope we’ll see more of the What We Do In Shadows group.
