First we saw the leaked trailer for Joss Whedon‘s Avengers: Age of Ultron and then we got to see an extended version that included the scene above. Thor was having a bit of fun with everyone about how worthy they are. It’s a great scene that sets up a lot of interesting questions. We’ve saved you a seat on the Who’s Worthy Speculation Tour, click that seat belt and let’s get startedFirst off, for those of you that were exploring caves, in a coma, or didn’t pay your Internet bill last month and had your service canceled, here’s the extended Avengers: age of Ultron trailer in question.

Let’s start with the obvious one, Captain America.

He does nudge the hammer and give Thor quite the shock, which he just as quickly hides from the others. Comic book readers know that there have been many folks that have picked up Thor’s hammer while in dire distress. Cap has done it before in the comics, so it wouldn’t be that big a surprise if he did it at one point in the movie or one of the other planned Avengers movies.

What we’d like to look closer at is how the Black Widow responded to the Hammer challenge. When Banner motions that it is her turn to lift the hammer Natasha responds:

Ohh no no-no, That’s not a question I need answered.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Black Widow has a dark past, much like the comic book version, although Scarlett Johansson‘s big screen version  seems more haunted by that troubled past. Let’s look at what might have happened if she tried to pick it up and what one What IF: Age of Ultron issue has to say on the matter.

Now we know that What If stories are just that, a What If look at some of Marvel’s story lines, but what if Joss Whedon decides to really pull one over on everyone? He gives everyone the Captain America Hammer Nudge and then pulls a What If: Age of Ultron sleight of hand?

Oh Myyy…. Could that be the big secret that blows everyone’s minds. One of the reasons that those Marvel people like Kevin Feige talks about the Black Widow stand alone movie, he always says that there are big plans and that Black Widow plays a large part in the upcoming Avengers movies? Will this be the moment that Black Widow overcomes her fear of her past and settles into being the hero she should have always been?

A moment like this would be huge. She wouldn’t keep the hammer of course, but if the hammer finds her worthy, shouldn’t that help her come to terms with how she feels about herself?

What do you think? Could Black Widow be the one who saves everyone in the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron?
